The design was originally issued in 2006, the coin was re-issued in 2009 as part of the 16-piece set to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the 50 pence denomination. It was also struck in copper-nickel, silver proof and gold proof. Issue limit: 40.

The design was used again in 2019 with the Jody Clark fifth portrait to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 50p in the Military set.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique design, showcasing a soldier wearing a Victoria Cross, which is the highest military decoration for valour in the face of the enemy given to members of the British and Commonwealth armed forces. This design was created to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Victoria Cross.
