The first time a royal event was celebrated on a UK fifty pence coin. This coin was issued to commemorate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in individual Royal Mint packages and in a two-coin set. The design was also struck in silver piedfort, silver proof, gold piedfort, gold proof and platinum proof.

A 2-coin BU pack was also issued with both obverses with 1,952 sales made.
The coin was also available at the Royal Mint Experience as a Strike Your Own edition on 6th February 2022 only (Platinum Jubilee Day). 2,250 Strike Your Own's were sold on that day.
A strike with the Jody Clark fifth portrait was issued as part of the Annual Proof sets for 2022 and a separate Strike Your Own.
