The series was struck to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the first book, A Bear Called Paddington, by Michael Bond.

The fourth and final Paddington Bear commemorative coin, the others being Paddington at the Station, Paddington at the Palace and Paddington at the Tower. The coin was also struck in copper-nickel and silver colourised proof.
