HMS Victory is the world’s oldest naval ship still in commission. Having never been officially decommissioned, it’s now in its 245th year of service.
She has been in dry dock for 100 years, but is the flagship of the First Sea Lord, the military head of the Royal Navy.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a portrait of Horatio Nelson, a famous British admiral who played a key role in several naval battles during the Napoleonic Wars, including the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, where he was fatally wounded. The coin's design commemorates the 200th anniversary of Nelson's death and depicts him in his naval uniform, with the HMS Victory, the ship he commanded during the Battle of Trafalgar, in the background.
