HMS Victory is the world’s oldest naval ship still in commission. Having never been officially decommissioned, it’s now in its 245th year of service.
She has been in dry dock for 100 years, but is the flagship of the First Sea Lord, the military head of the Royal Navy.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique reversed portrait of Lord Horatio Nelson, a famous British naval officer who led the British fleet to victory against the French and Spanish fleets at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. The portrait is placed on the coin to commemorate the 215th anniversary of Nelson's victory.
