This Jody Clark fifth portrait edition was issued as individual pieces, while the Ian Rank-Broadley fourth portrait was issued in the 2015 annual gold proof sets. This design was also struck in silver proof and silver piedfort and, unlike the copper-nickel issue, does not feature the denomination on the obverse. Issue limit: 520.© The Royal Mint, 2015
The design was reused in 2019 as part of the 5-coin military sets, commemorating 50 years of the 50p.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the Battle of Britain; Gold Proof) 2015 50p coin is that it was minted to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, a pivotal air campaign fought between the British Royal Air Force (RAF) and the German Luftwaffe during World War II. The coin's design features an image of a Supermarine Spitfire, one of the main fighter planes used by the RAF during the battle, soaring above the English Channel. The coin's gold composition and limited mintage of 1,000 pieces also add to its collectibility and value among numismatists.
