Comment
There were three distinct types issued for the 2015 Battle of Britain commemorative featuring three different obverses, two different compositions, with just this Jody Clark fifth portrait entering circulation. We are indebted to the numismatic website Change Checker and Numista member Sjoelund for sharing the graphic below:This particular type was only released for circulation and has the denomination on the obverse, unlike the BU and Proof annual sets for 2015 which featured the Ian Rank-Broadley fourth portrait. This design was also struck in silver proof, silver piedfort and gold proof.
The design was re-issued in 2019, forming part of the 5-coin British Military set celebrating 50 years of the 50p.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique reverse design by artist Gary Breeze, which depicts a Spitfire plane soaring above the English Channel, commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.
