Celebrate Canada's 150th birthday with this must-have set of two special coin rolls you won't find in your change! It includes two versions of the tradition-rich 50-cent coin: one features the timeless design of Canada's coat of arms, and the other the official CANADA 150 logo from Canadian Heritage.

Only two special commemorative designs have graced the 50-cent coin in its 80-year history; now's your chance to become the proud owner of the coin featuring the third! This design was chosen as part of a Canadian Heritage contest inviting students across the country to create a logo for the country's 150th anniversary - the first image from the general public to appear on the 50-cent coin!

Designs
Virtually unchanged since 1959, the design on the reverse of the classic 50-cent Canadian coin features Canada's coat of arms. It eloquently evokes our nation's history through each of its highly symbolic elements - most notably the shield, where a three-leaf maple branch represents Canadians of all origins, while the founding nations are honoured at the top. On one side, a lion holds a spear bearing the Union Jack, and on the other, a unicorn holds the royal flag of France. Above the crowned lion is the crown of St. Edward, representing the monarch, Canada's head of state. Finally, at the bottom of the illustration, a scroll bears Canada's unifying motto, A MARI USQUE AD MARE (From Sea to Sea).

On the reverse of the special commemorative version, Ariana Cuvin of Toronto, Ontario, transformed the maple leaf into an attractive mosaic representing Confederation. Linked to the stem, four diamond shapes symbolize the provinces that originally formed Confederation in 1867 (Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia); the other nine shapes embody the provinces and territories that were added later. Together, the shapes form the emblem of unity, freedom and peace that is recognized around the globe: an ideal that today celebrates 150 proud years!

Linked to the stem, four diamonds symbolize the first provinces of Confederation; nine shapes represent the provinces and territories that followed.
