This Bimetallic coin was struck by the Royal Mint and issued by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand in 1994 to Commemorate 225 years since Lt. James Cook left England to explore the Pacific in 1769. The coin was issued in three different versions. This is the Silver Proof version made from a base metal inner core and a sterling silver outer ring. It was issued in the Year Proof Set and a capsule in a plush black box with certificate.The other versions of the coin were plain base metal and a proof yellow and white gold edition. (See links)
