This Bimetallic coin was struck by the Royal Mint and issued by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand in 1994 to Commemorate 225 years since Lt. James Cook left England to explore the Pacific in 1769. This coin was issued individually, mintage 52,500, and was not meant for circulation. It was also included in the 1994 Year Uncirculated Set, (7000 copies) and the 1994 Year Proof Set. (4,600 Copies)The Uncirculated Set came in a fold out card inside a sleeve. This was the front and back of the sleeve

The coin was issued in two other alternate metal versions. They were a silver proof with base metal inner ring and a gold proof with yellow gold inner and white gold outer ring. (See links)
