Comment

The 1987 series was initially manufactured to be part of the 1st Córdoba currency. Due to the 1988 redenomination and removal of 3 zeros, the 1987 series was introduced into the 2nd Córdoba currency. While these coins are dated 1987, they were not released into circulation until 1988 after the conversion was made.

Due to high inflation caused by fiscal mismanagement in the 1980s, the Córdoba was again redenominated in 1990 at a rate of 1 Córdoba "Oro" = 5,000,000 "old" Córdobas.

Interesting fact

The 50 Centavos coin from Nicaragua, made of Aluminium bronze and weighing 4.85g, has a unique feature - it has a security thread embedded in the paper that glows pink when held under ultraviolet light. This feature was introduced as an anti-counterfeiting measure to prevent the coin from being duplicated.
