Comment

All 1999-2002 (and all later) issues are not official Somali issues. Current central bank correspondence confirms the information, widespread in numismatic community ever since these appeared on the market, due to unstable situation in Somalia. None of these coins ever saw Somalia and as such not even meant to be circulation coins. Last coin for circulation in Somalia was issued in 1984.

Interesting fact

The 5 Shillings (FAO) 1999-2002 coin from Somalia is a non-circulating coin, meaning it was not meant to be used as regular currency. Instead, it was produced specifically for collectors and was sold at a higher price than its face value. This coin is part of a series of coins issued by Somalia to commemorate the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. The coin's design features the FAO's emblem on one side and the Somali coat of arms on the other.
