Founded many centuries ago, ancient Merv is located in Turkmenistan. The oldest fortified township was built 2,500 years ago. At present Merv is a group of picturesque archeological sites surrounded by fortress-walls and ruins of fortifications, and feudal palaces, mosques and mausoleums.

Interesting fact

The coin features the ancient city of Merv, which was once a major center of trade and culture along the Silk Road. The city was founded in the 6th century BC and was known for its impressive architecture, including the Kyz Kala, a fortress-like building that was used as a palace and a temple. The coin's design showcases the Kyz Kala, along with other architectural monuments from ancient Merv, making it a unique and fascinating piece of numismatic history.
