Date of issue: 19 OCT 1993Founded many centuries ago, ancient Merv is located in Turkmenistan. The oldest fortified township was built 2,500 years ago. At present Merv is a group of picturesque archeological sites surrounded by fortress-walls and ruins of fortifications, and feudal palaces, mosques and mausoleums.
