One of the first coins to be issued under the reign of King Charles III, released on Monday October 3rd 2022 at 9am to commemorate the life and legacy of Queen Elizabeth II. Due to the unprecedented demand for the coin the mintage was unlimited until 31st December 2022. The coin was issued individually (22,501 sales), in a coin and stamp cover (Issue Limit: 1,500; sales 320) and in tubes (1,200 sales)Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the coin is that it features a unique reverse design, which was created by sculptor and designer, Gary Breeze. The design depicts a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, surrounded by a wreath of oak leaves, with the inscription "ELIZABETH II • DEI • GRA • REGINA • F.D." (Elizabeth II, by the grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith) above her head. The coin's obverse features the standard effigy of Charles III, also designed by Gary Breeze.
