Carlos J. Finlay (born Juan Carlos Finlay) was a cuban physician and biologist, who discovered and described the transmition of the yellow fever thru the mosquito "Aedes Aegitpti".
His method to fight the disease, erradicated it from Cuba in only 7 months, and allowed the completion of the Panama Channel.
Cuba government stated the prize "Carlos J. Finlay" that UNESCO grants every 2 years to investigators on microbiology themes (inmunology, molecular biology, genetics, etc.), that outstandingly contribute to health.
