Comment

The coin is dedicated to Ivan Pavlovych Puliui (another spelling - Pulyui) (1845-1918), an inventor and physicist, who discovered the peculiar properties of the cathode rays, later on rediscovered by Wilhelm Conrad Rentgen and named after him, before the latter. Ivan Puliui was the author of nearly 50 research and popular-science works on physics and electrical engineering written in Ukrainian, German and English. In addition, he was proficient in ancient languages and left a large heritage in the area; together with P.Kulish and I.Nechui-Levytskyi he participated in translation of the Bible into Ukrainian.

Interesting fact

The Ivan Puliui 5 Hryven coin was issued to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Puliui, a famous Ukrainian scientist and engineer who made significant contributions to the development of electrical engineering and electronics. The coin's design features an image of Puliui on the obverse, along with the coin's denomination and the year of issue. The reverse side of the coin features an image of a stylized electric circuit, symbolizing Puliui's contributions to the field of electrical engineering.
