Comment

In his early youth, Filippo Neri moved from Florence to Rome, where he devoted himself to apostleship and the service of the poor and outcasts. He cared for the sick and founded hospitals for them. He loved the young and for them he established schools. His Congregation of the Oratory, the first example of secular priests’ community life, is still active in Italy and abroad. Canonised in 1622, he is remembered as the saint of joy and singing.

Interesting fact

The interesting fact about this coin is that it features an image of Saint Filippo Neri, an Italian priest and founder of the Congregation of the Oratory, on its obverse side.
