Bramante took his first steps as an artist and painter in the Duchy of Urbino, a prosperous cultural landmark of the 15th century. He is however considered among the most important personalities of the Italian Renaissance for his significant architectural works. Combining the formal models of the classical period with the archetypes of Christian art, Bramante gave a boost to an ambitious monumental manner that paved the way for the most elaborate Baroque style of the following century.
