Comment

Imposing and visible from any point of the city, the monumental complex of the Alcazaba and the walls of the Cerro de San Cristóbal, was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 2004. It sits on an isolated hill overlooking the entire bay of Almería , standing out for its important defensive capacity and for being the second largest construction of Arab origin in Spain after the Alhambra in Granada. It was in 955 when the first caliph of al-Ándalus, adb al-Rahman III, had the Alcazaba built on the remains of a previous fortress. The site has 3 different parts, 2 of Arabic origin and style and a later one of Christian origin, commissioned by the Catholic Monarchs after the capture of the city in 1489.
