Comment
The 1987 series was initially manufactured to be part of the 1st Córdoba currency. Due to the 1988 redenomination and removal of 3 zeros, the 1987 series was introduced into the 2nd Córdoba currency. While these coins are dated 1987, they were not released into circulation until 1988 after the conversion was made.Due to high inflation caused by fiscal mismanagement in the 1980s, the Córdoba was again redenominated in 1990 at a rate of 1 Córdoba "Oro" = 5,000,000 "old" Córdobas.
Interesting fact
The 5 Córdobas coin from Nicaragua, made of Aluminium bronze and weighing 7.4 grams, features the national emblem of Nicaragua on one side and the image of Augusto César Sandino on the other. Augusto César Sandino was a Nicaraguan revolutionary leader who played a significant role in the country's history, and his image on the coin is a nod to his legacy.
