Interesting fact
The 5 Chon coin from the Gwang Mu era (1902) was the first coin to feature the Korean peninsula's map on its obverse side. This design change was a departure from the previous coins that featured the Chinese characters for "Gwang Mu" or "Korea" on their obverse side. The inclusion of the map was a symbol of Korea's growing sense of national identity and its desire for independence from foreign occupation.
