Comment
This collection is the second issue of a collection of coins called "Treasures of Spanish Museums." This II Series is composed of five coins that recreate, each one of them, works by the artists El Greco, Goya, Rubens, and Antonio van Dyck, respectively.
Doménikos Theotokópoulos (Greek: Δομήνικος Θεοτοκόπουλος; 1 October 1541 – 7 April 1614), most widely known as El Greco, was a Greek painter, sculptor and architect of the Spanish Renaissance. El Greco was a nickname, and the artist normally signed his paintings with his full birth name in Greek letters, often adding the word Κρής (Krḗs), which means "Cretan", in Ancient Greek.
Interesting fact
The Domenicos Theotocopoulos "El Greco" 400 Euro gold coin from Spain features an image of the famous painter's iconic work, "The Burial of the Count of Orgaz." This painting is considered one of El Greco's greatest masterpieces and is now housed in the Church of Santo Tomé in Toledo, Spain. The coin's design is a nod to the country's rich cultural heritage and artistic history.
