In the 2023 Ceremony held at York Minster, the Maundy coins saw His Majesty King Charles III’s official coin portrait appear on them, making it the first time King Charles III issued his own Maundy Money.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the 4 Pence - Charles III (Maundy Money) 2023 coin is that it features a unique design that represents the four Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The design includes four shields, each bearing a symbol representing one of the Gospels, surrounded by a wreath of oak leaves. This design is a nod to the rich history and tradition of the Maundy Money, which has been minted since the 17th century as part of an annual ceremony in which the monarch distributes gifts to deserving individuals.
