Tunes! Order it today, before they're all gone!A hapless hunter who's easy to fool, Elmer J. Fudd is the perfect foil for Bugs Bunny's recklessness and naughty tricks. Since Bugs Bunny's first appearance in 1940, this lovable duo has made us laugh to tears as they pit themselves against each other in a long series of cartoons, the most representative - and beloved - of which is undoubtedly The Hutch in Seville, the animated masterpiece from which the image reproduced on the reverse of this coin is taken.
Released on December 16, 1950, The Seville Hutch was the first, but not the last, Looney Tunes short to parody a classic opera! Pursued by Elmer Fudd, Bugs Bunny tries to escape him by luring him onto the Hollywood Bowl stage just before a performance of Rossini's famous opera, The Barber of Seville. Through an escalation of pranks and bizarre situations in a barbershop setting, Bugs Bunny takes control of the situation and stages his own version of the opera... to Elmer's detriment, of course.
Remarkably, Rossini's overture remains virtually untouched, with the exception of a few slight cuts to eliminate repetition and a slightly accelerated tempo to keep it under six minutes. The duel is a tour de force of animation, where the comic plot is perfectly synchronized with the music of a famous opera.
If these cartoon farces made us all laugh, they also introduced opera and classical music to many people who would otherwise never have known Rossini's The Barber of Seville, were it not for a "naughty rabbit" and an unfortunate hunter.
