Comment
Whether flying solo or watching from the top of the tallest tree, the bald eagle, with its piercing gaze, is recognized as a symbol of strength. This majestic bird of prey can, however, show surprising tenderness when it feeds its offspring and sets an example to ensure the survival and prosperity of subsequent generations. Rarely seen, it's this side of the bird that is depicted on the 2 oz. 99.99% pure silver coin. The multi-faceted engraving adds depth to the eagle and its eaglets, creating a fresh and dazzling picture of this creature seen from a whole new angle.
A mix of finishes
With a glossy, uniform finish, many of the fine details of this family portrait would be lost in the shuffle. So we applied different finishes to the print to add depth: a frosted nest in the foreground, a frosted landscape in the field, and glossy facets for the eagles.
DID YOU KNOW?
Bald eagles build the biggest nests: they're around 1 metre high, but can exceed that. It's impossible to say exactly whether it's the male or the female who chooses the site, but the nest is generally placed in the tallest trees, where the young have an unobstructed view and easier access to flight.
The eaglets hatch after 35 days of incubation and are confined to the nest for 10 to 12 weeks. During this time, the parents protect them from the elements and bring them food. Eaglets learn to fly and hunt at their own pace. After two months, they are largely independent.
Packaging
The coin is encapsulated and presented in a black double-shell case adorned with the Royal Canadian Mint logo. The case comes with a black protective box.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the coin is that it features a unique reverse design that showcases two bald eagles perched on a branch, with one eagle facing the other in a symbol of unity and strength. The design is meant to represent the enduring relationship between Canada and the United Kingdom, as well as the shared values of freedom, democracy, and the rule of law. The coin's high silver content and detailed design make it a popular collector's item and a meaningful tribute to the long-standing relationship between the two nations.
