The United Nations Organisation was founded in 1945. At present, 193 states are members of the UN. The mission and activities of the United Nations are shaped by the goals and principles formulated in the UN Charter.
Due to its powers and authorities set forth in the UN Charter and its unique international character, the United Nations Organisation can address issues faced by the mankind in the 21st century. These include peace and security, climate change, sustainable development, human rights, disarmament, terrorism, humanitarian and emergency situations, gender equality, management, food production, and many others.
The UN constitutes a forum where representatives from all states may express their opinions in the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council and other bodies and committees. While assisting and organising dialogue and between its member states, the UN becomes a facility helping governments to find common grounds and resolve problems by mutual efforts.
