Date of issue: 01 FEB 2008The Cathedral of Saint Demetrius in the City of Vladimir built in 1194-1197 by the Prince Vsevolod III as the Court Church in honor to Saint Demetrius, the patron of the prince, is the unique monument of the Suzdal-Vladimir white-stone architecture. The main feature of the Cathedral is its exterior with around 15 hundred stones covered with carved sculptural decor. The Cathedral is entered to the List of the World Cultural Heritage of UNESCO.

The Cathedral of Saint Demetrius, which is featured on the coin, is a prominent landmark in Vladimir, Russia, and is considered one of the most well-preserved examples of medieval Russian architecture. It was built in the 12th century and has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1992.
