Date of issue: 02 MAY 2006The Monastery of the Dormition of the Mother of God was founded in the town of Tikhvin in 1560 according to the Edict of the Tsar Ivan IV. The holy Cell arose at the place which had been blessed in 1383 by the appearance of the miracle working icon of the Mother of God Hodegetria («Showing the Way») that was named thereafter Tikhvin icon.
