Comment

Introduced by the RBZ (Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe) on December 18, 2014 in order to replace a multi-currency environment (USD, EUR, SAR) and to address the acute shortage of small change as a result of a decade of hyperinflation which peaked in 2009.

The newly issued currency was pegged 1:1 to the US Dollar.

Interesting fact

The 25 Cents (Bond Coin) 2014 from Zimbabwe has a unique feature that sets it apart from other coins. It has a special security feature called a "holographic stripe" that is visible on the reverse side of the coin. This stripe contains a holographic image of a lion, which is visible when the coin is tilted at a certain angle. This feature was incorporated to prevent counterfeiting and to ensure the authenticity of the coin.
