Comment
Introduced by the RBZ (Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe) on December 18, 2014 in order to replace a multi-currency environment (USD, EUR, SAR) and to address the acute shortage of small change as a result of a decade of hyperinflation which peaked in 2009. The newly issued currency was pegged 1:1 to the US Dollar.Interesting fact
The 10 Cents (Bond Coin) 2014 from Zimbabwe is unique in that it was issued as a bond coin, meaning that it was issued as a form of debt security, rather than a traditional currency. This was done as a way for the Zimbabwean government to raise funds for various projects and initiatives, and the coin's value is backed by the government's promise to repay the bond at a later date. This makes it an interesting collector's item for numismatists and those interested in unique financial instruments.
