Comment

The coins of this series have been produced by the “Lisbon Mint House” in the Summer of 1755 and stored at the "India House" in October.
They were ready to follow to Mozambique when, at the 01NOV1755, a terrible earthquake followed of a fire and a sunami destroyed the city of Lisbon.
The “India House”, next to the port, was also destroyed. Partially, they have been partially saved and sent to Mozambique.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 2000 Réis - José I (Lisbon) 1755 coin from Mozambique is that it was minted during the time of Portuguese colonial rule in Mozambique, which lasted from 1898 to 1975. The coin features an image of King José I of Portugal on one side and the coat of arms of Lisbon on the other. It was made of gold (.9166) and weighs 2.6 grams.
