Fructuoso Rivera, one of the main heros of Uruguay Founded Durazno City on 1821, placed on center of the county. Rivera was also founder of the Partido Colorado (Red Party), one of the two traditional political parties.Original name was San Pedro de Durazno (Saint Peter of Peach) Durazno in Spanish means peach, name from a peach tree that was a t the location of new city. On 1906, name was changed to Durazno, as part of the elimination of all religiuos references, cause of country Government turned un religious, but accepting all religions.

Fructuoso Rivera, uno de los principales héroes de Uruguay fundó la ciudad de durazno en 1821, ubicada en el centro del país. Rivera también fué fundador del Partido Colorado, uno de los dos partidos tradicionales del país.
El nombre original de la ciudad fué San Pedro del Durazno. El nombre proviene de un árbol de durazno que estaba emplazado en la ubicación del nuevo poblado. El nombre fué cambiado en 1906, durante el proceso de laicización del estado. El Gobierno dejó de tener religión, pero acepta y respeta todas las religiones.
