Central motif is a thunderbird, stylized in the tradition of Everson’s K’ómoks and Kwakwaka’wakw ancestors. This image is framed by a circle of eight rays, representing the sunrays of daylight. Between the rays are eight stylized stars.

The second program, devoted to the theme of air, features a thunderbird. The cycle of day and night has been ingeniously integrated into the motif. The thunderbird with its curved horns, whose eyes can throw lightning bolts and whose flapping wings can make thunder, is encircled by eight stylized rays. These rays, pointing in all directions, represent the reach and power of the sun during the day, and emphasize the power of the thunderbird as lord of the heavens and messenger of the gods. Between the rays are stars, symbolizing the night. Although the sun warms us with its rays, starlight guides us through the darkest hours. Like the cycle of day and night, each element of the motif merges into the next. The Symbiosis series celebrates the relationship between the three elements of Canadian nature - earth, sky and sea. A great gift for anyone who admires First Nations art.
It's very fitting that an artist from the traditionally protective "Pays de Cocagne" nation of eastern Vancouver Island should conceive a series celebrating the relationship between land, sea and sky, and the peoples living in this environment. Andy(Na̱gedzi) Everson is a member of the K'ómoks First Nation of British Columbia. Through dance, drumming and art, Everson honors the traditions of his K'ómoks and Kwakwaka'wakw ancestors. As a ceremonial dancer, he has traveled the world promoting First Nations traditions. It was these dances that inspired Everson to seriously explore art and design items for potlatches.
Today, he's known for his bold, eye-catching and inspiring designs, which often fuse traditional motifs with pop culture references.
