This coin celebrates the first Spanish railroad at Europe. In fact, first Spanish railroad was built at Cuba on 1837, that still was a Spanish colony. Also from 1836 there was a railroad to transport production of the Armao mine, at Asturias province, using animal traction.Barcelona-Mataró line was the first regular line to transport goods and passengers using engine.
Late development of railroads at Spain comes from rough terrain, with several mountains and big level differences.
Interesting fact
The 1988 Cuban 20 Pesos silver coin commemorating the First Spanish Railroad is a unique piece with only 5,000 minted. Its rarity and historical significance make it a valuable collector's item for numismatists and railroad enthusiasts.
