Comment

The lighthouse at La Corbière sits on a rock 500m from the shore at the most south-westerly point of Jersey, in the parish of St Brelade, and is the first lighthouse in the British Isles to be constructed of concrete. Although Krause and Jersey Coins and Banknotes both denote this coin as being a commemorative of the 100th anniversary, the lighthouse was actually completed in November 1873 and formally lit in April 1874.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 1982 Jersey 20 Pence coin featuring Elizabeth II and the Corbière Lighthouse is that it was the first coin to feature a lighthouse on a British coin. The Corbière Lighthouse, located on the southwest coast of Jersey, is an iconic landmark and a symbol of the island's maritime history. The coin's design, created by sculptor and engraver John M. L. M. S. S. Muller, features a detailed representation of the lighthouse, surrounded by the coin's denomination and the year of issue. The coin's unique design and historical significance make it a popular collector's item among numismatists and enthusiasts of British coinage.
