The Kingdom of the Hijaz - Arabic: مملكة الحجاز (Mamlakat al-Hijāz) - was a West Asian state located in the Hijaz, the Red Sea coast of the Arabian Peninsula. Its capital was Mecca. Initially an independent Hashemite kingdom (1916-1925), then occupied by the Sultanate of Nedj (1925-1926), it later became part of the Kingdom of Nedj and Hedjaz (1926-1932) and was incorporated into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Its territory corresponds to the current Saudi provinces of Tabuk, Medina, Mecca, Al Bahah, Jizan and Asir.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the 20 Para coin from the Kingdom of Hejaz (Saudi Arabia) is that it was designed by the Ottoman Empire's chief engraver, Hagop Sandaldjian, who also designed coins for other countries, including Egypt and Iraq.
