Moving stealthily through the Canadian wilderness, the wolf (Canis lupus) makes its presence known with its unmistakable call in the night. Our nocturnal exploration of Canada continues with this third piece in the Nocturnal Animals series, where black rhodium plating creates an ambience conducive to a nocturnal serenade.Special features
THIRD PIECE IN THE SERIES. By using black rhodium plating for the third time, the Mint was able to faithfully reproduce the night sky, without concealing the moon's beautifully frosted finish! The other coins in the series are :
The barn owl (currently sold out on monnaie.ca)
Little Brown Bat (still available)
ANIMAL ART REINVENTED. A sophisticated combination of etching, selective plating and finishes creates this memorable representation of a species whose howl evokes the Canadian wilderness.
BLACK AS NIGHT. Selective plating in black rhodium, a precious metal, enhances the value and aesthetic appeal of the piece. To give the motif the allure of a night scene, layers of rhodium plating are painstakingly added until the exact blackness of a moonlit night is achieved.
THE MOON'S SILVERY GLOW. The unplated surface of the piece, 99.99% pure silver, mimics the glow of a full moon illuminating the wolf from behind and casting shadows across the dark landscape.
CHANGING COLOR. When the piece is tilted, the rhodium plating produces a subtle (and natural) change from black to dark metallic grey with subtle flashes of violet and even bluish. This adds to the beauty of the piece!
NUMBERED CERTIFICATE. The Royal Canadian Mint certifies the authenticity of all its collector coins. Most are accompanied by a certificate bearing a unique number, the series starting at 1.
WORLD LIMITED EDITION of only 7,000 pieces: order yours before it's too late!

Did you know?
A wolf's howl is a powerful means of communication, whether it's to rally the pack or to warn off strangers encroaching on its territory.
Wolves don't actually howl at the moon: they raise their heads to the sky to better project their call, so that the sound travels further.
If wolves' howls seem more frequent in winter, it's no coincidence: the mating season runs from January to April, and the male's call can be used to attract a female.
Packaging
The coin is encapsulated and presented in a burgundy double-shell case adorned with the Royal Canadian Mint logo. The case comes with a black protective box.
Interesting fact
The Howling Wolf coin features a unique design that showcases a wolf howling at the moon, surrounded by a forest landscape. The coin's design is inspired by the natural beauty of Canada's wilderness and the majesty of the howling wolf. The use of rhodium plating and pure silver gives the coin a distinctive shine and adds to its collectibility.
