Did you know?
- The creation of the three Military Valour Decorations (the Victoria Cross, the Star of Military Valour and the Medal of Military Valour) was approved on February 2, 1993, but their award is retroactive to January 1, 1993.
- None were awarded until October 2006, when the Canadian mission in Afghanistan created circumstances conducive to meeting the award criteria. Although 94 Canadians were awarded the British Victoria Cross between 1856 and 1982, no one has yet received its Canadian counterpart.
- One of the 18 Stars of Military Valour awarded was awarded posthumously.
- A recipient of the Star of Military Valour may add the initials "É.V.M." after his or her name.
- It is possible to receive the Star and Medal of Military Valour more than once, but the recipient receives only one insignia. A bar is added to the medal ribbon for each additional decoration.
- The insignia was designed by the late Bruce W. Beatty, C.M., S.O.M., C.D., who was responsible for the original design of many of Canada's honours badges, including the Order of Canada.
Packaging
The coin is encapsulated and presented in a burgundy double-shell case featuring the Royal Canadian Mint logo. The case comes with a black protective box.
