Located along the border between British Columbia and Alberta, the magnificent Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park conjures up majestic images of soaring mountains, icy peaks, crystal-clear lakes and fields of alpine wildflowers. Part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this British Columbia park has long attracted hikers and outdoor enthusiasts for its natural beauty and rich bio-diversity, and will now delight coin collectors. With no road access, the park's wilderness remains largely untouched, and only hikers and climbers can admire its splendour as they ascend to the imposing peaks, including Tower Peak, named for the breathtaking view it offers from its heights, like an observation tower.
Did you know that?
At the insistence of the Alpine Club of Canada, the Province of British Columbia set aside 5,120 hectares for the creation of Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park in 1922. In 1973, the park was expanded. It now covers 39,050 hectares, some seven times its original size.
At 2,850 metres, Tower Peak is one of the park's many peaks, and a favourite with mountaineers.
Packaging
The coin is encapsulated and presented in a burgundy double-shell case adorned with the Royal Canadian Mint logo. The case comes with a black protective box.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique reverse design that showcases the natural beauty of the Canadian Rockies, with a depiction of a majestic mountain range surrounded by a serene lake and lush greenery.
