The third piece in the annual Emblematic Maple Leaves series is a tribute to L. C. Wyon's crossed maple boughs, set on a scalloped canvas and enhanced with full gold plating. These emblematic maple leaves were first introduced by the Province of Canada before being adopted by the Dominion of Canada to adorn its first coins, which hold a special place in the hearts of many collectors.Did you know that?
Crossed maple branches appeared on all the denominations of the first Dominion of Canada coins issued in 1870, except for the one-cent, which featured a stem of maple leaves arranged like a vine.
The branches adorned these Canadian circulation coins until 1936. The only exception was the five-cent, on which they were replaced by two maple leaves in 1922.
Packaging
The coin is presented in a superb wooden case with a black velvet interior. Embellished with the Royal Canadian Mint logo, the case features a removable tray and a special compartment for the certificate. It comes with an illustrated protective box.
