Comment

The coin has the A mintmark because the DIES were prepared in the Paris Mint, but the coins were actually struck in the Philadelphia Mint. See "Foreign Coins Struck at United States Mints" by Charles G. Altz and E. H. Barton (1965), page 22.
This also applies to the other 1897 A coins of the Dominican Republic.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 1897 20 Centavos coin from the Dominican Republic is that it features a unique design that reflects the country's rich history and culture. The obverse side of the coin depicts a portrait of Juan Pablo Duarte, a national hero who played a key role in the country's struggle for independence from Haiti. The reverse side features a depiction of a palm tree, which is a symbol of peace and prosperity in Dominican culture. Additionally, the coin's unique blend of silver and copper gives it a distinctive color and texture that sets it apart from other coins of its time.
