Interesting fact
The 2 Tambala coin was the first coin to be introduced in Malawi after the country gained independence from British colonial rule in 1964. It was introduced in 1984 and was in circulation until 1994. The coin features the national emblem of Malawi on one side and the denomination on the other. The use of copper-plated steel in the coin's construction was a cost-saving measure, as it was less expensive than using solid copper. Despite its relatively short time in circulation, the 2 Tambala coin remains a popular collector's item among numismatists today.
