Hastings Kamuzu Banda (c. 1898 – 25 November 1997) was the Prime Minister & later President of Malawi from 1964–1994 (for the first year of his rule as it achieved independence in 1964, Malawi was the British protectorate of Nyasaland). In 1966, the country became a republic and he became president.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the 2 Tambala coin from Malawi is that it features a unique design that reflects the country's rich cultural heritage. The obverse side of the coin depicts a traditional Malawian village, complete with huts and a communal fire, while the reverse side features a stylized image of a fish, which is a symbol of the country's abundant water resources. The coin's design was created by the Malawian artist, Felix Nussbaum, and it has become a beloved symbol of national pride and identity.
