Comment
This series of coins were minted by Christian II in Oslo during his campaign to regain the throne from his uncle Frederik I. The silver used for these coins was sent by archbishop of Nidaros, Olav Engelbrektsson, as a show of support for his claim on the throne.Interesting fact
The 2 Skilling Klipping coin from Norway, issued during the reign of Christian II (1531-1532), is interesting because it was made of silver, yet it was only worth 1/4 of a standard skilling, which was the equivalent of a Norwegian penny at the time. This coin was also known as a "klipping" because it was clipped or cut from a larger silver coin, the 4 Skilling coin, to create four smaller coins. This practice of clipping coins was a common method used by the Norwegian government during this time period to create smaller denominations due to a lack of silver.
