Date of issue: 10 JAN 1995Alexander Sergeyevich Griboyedov (1795-1829) - a Russian playwright, poet and diplomat. His principal work is the brilliant comedy "Wit Works Woe", which played a great role in the development of the Russian realistic theatre. In 1821 Griboyedov was appointed ambassador to Persia where he was killed by nationalist fanatics.
