Marked on KM#11.6No documentary evidence has been found linking the SAP monogram to El Salvador as yet. While this monogram has previously been attributed to El Salvador and to some Caribbean islands as well, its inclusion here is for reference purposes only.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it was counter-marked with a small "SAP" stamp, indicating that it was issued by the Salvadoran government as part of a series of coins that were minted in response to a severe economic crisis in the 1830s. This counter-marking was done to validate the coin's authenticity and value, as there was a high level of counterfeiting and fraudulent currency in circulation at the time.
