Comment

Britain was at the edge of the Roman Empire in the early 2nd century. Rome had invaded and colonialised England and much of Wales in a campaign starting in AD 43, but had never succeeded in gaining a foothold north, always held back by Pict and Caledonian tribes in what we now call Scotland. Emperor Hadrian visited Britain in AD 122 and this is when construction of the new wall started.

Severus Septimus - Visited, lived, and died in Britain. He was leading a campaign to finally defeat the Scots after many rebellions. He fell ill and died in York.
