D-Day was the largest seaborne invasion in history which took place on 6th June 1944 and began the liberation of German-occupied France during WWII.Released as part of the 2019 annual Brilliant Uncirculated (23,326 sales), Proof (Issue Limit 7,000; sales 6,055) and Premium Proof (Issue Limit 5,000; sales 2,053) sets. While also available in individual BU packs (25,935 sales), a coin & stamp cover (1,167 sales), and tubes sold to third parties (49,032 sales), the design was also struck in silver proof, silver piedfort and gold proof.

A four-coin multi nation set featuring this coin was released by the Royal Mint and the Royal Australian Mint (issue limit: 10,000, sales included in the third-party tubes above). Included in the set are a $1 Coin from Australia, a $2 coin from Canada, a €5 coin from Belgium and this £2 coin from the United Kingdom. All four coins commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings.
