Interesting fact
The 2 Mark coin from Sweden, issued during the reign of Johan III in 1590, was made of Billon, which is an alloy of silver and copper. Specifically, it contains 48.4% silver and 51.6% copper. This composition was chosen to reduce the cost of production, as silver was becoming increasingly expensive at the time. Despite being made of a less valuable metal, the coin still maintained its value and was widely used in circulation.
