Comment
The double florin was valued at 40 patards (80 groats) at the time of issue. While less than double the weight of the florin, it was made of significantly purer gold (0.992 versus 0.792).Delmonte cites two known examples, the one in the photos (Bibliotheque National de France), and one in Vienna.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique design element - a small shield with the coat of arms of Brabant, which was added to the obverse (front) side of the coin. This shield was not present on earlier issues of the coin, and its inclusion on this particular issue was likely done to signify the coin's connection to the Duchy of Brabant.
